I’m crying; well not really

Nine months ago the Blender Foundation released it’s latest open source movie Tears of Steel. This short intermixed live action with CG elements. The acting and the script are a bit cheesy, and some of the effects didn’t quite work out, but overall I feel that it looks pretty well.

Creating a simple star field is pretty easy in blender. I recently found one for 2.49, and decide to make one for 2.5 since a few locations and buttons had changed.

Art Exhibition of the Century

Last week my father-in-law, Placido D’souza, had an art exhibition in New York City. The exhibition featured pencil drawings that he did of leaders and other famous people while he was an ambassador for India. Here is a nice article describing the event.

I missed the event because I was busy with work and other stuff, but I’ve heard from others that it went well. Mr. D’Souza was pleased with it.

iMovie, GarageBand and iDVD

Last month the preschool school that I volunteer some of my time to had a graduation, and I was asked to put together some slides for the graduation. The parents also wanted a DVD of the show.

Update patterns in gimp

To update patterns after one is created and saved, and without restarting gimp do the following.

  1.  In the photo main window select “Dialogs->Patterns” in the photo main window.
  2. Click on the reload button. It looks like a small circular arrow in the bottom right of the dialog box.

The keyboard shortcut is Shift-Ctrl-P
