Sometimes in my work I need to get screen shots of the product I’m working on. Well not actually the whole screen but the window. There is a way to get a screen shot and a selection, but the window shot is less obvious.
The screen shot is shift-cmd-3. The selection is shift-cmd-4, then use the mouse to select the area you want. The window isn’t mentioned in the apple help, but I did find it on the web. For this type shift-cmd-4, then type space. The window is grayed out and the icon changes to a camera. Press the mouse button to save the image.
The cool part is if you don’t have the window you want on top, you can use the cmd-tab option or cmd-` to cycle through the windows until you get to the one you want.
Summary:
- shift-cmd-3 – Entire screen shot
- shift-cmd-4 – Selection shot. Start selection by holding mouse down. Move mouse to create selection and then let go of mouse to snapshot selection
- shift-cmd-4 then space. Select window. Press mouse to snapshot current window.
