Old Car, New Car.

In May I was in an auto accident. My nice, cool, faded paint, old ford probe GT with totaled. I was hit by a semi-truck changing into my lane.

Fortunately I wasn’t hurt, and the police found the driver of the semi at fault. The insurance gave me blue book value, which was about $1700 dollars, but the estimated damages to the car were about $5100. I was tempted to keep the car and fix it, but I hardly know anything about cars, and I also really didn’t want to take a risk with the frame being bent or getting the car street legal again.

So, I started looking for another car. Eventually I found a Hyundai Elantra 2005 with 28000 miles on it. Hyundai Lot Front viewHyundai Lot Read view I had a budget for the car and the Elantra fit in under the budget. It’s actually a pretty peppy car, and only really needs minor work. The mirror was broken and was suppose to be covered under the warranty. The dealer replaced the switches that controlled the mirror, but it’s the actually mirror that I’m having problems with. It won’t adjust up or down. I told the dealer that, and I’m still waiting for them to call back about a new mirror. The last they told me was that it was backed ordered. I think they are lying about it and haven’t done anything. Since it’s been a few months I decided to take a look at the mirror and, believe it or not, I managed to fix it. How cool is that! However I won’t be going back to that dealer since they don’t really appear to be interested in my business. This is too bad since they are the closest dealership to where I work, but if they don’t want my money too bad for them.

The only other problem was the top seam for the front windshield. When it rained it leaked, and I fixed that myself too. 🙂

Overall, after five months, I’m really happy with the car. It’s no probe, but for a four cylinder it’s good enough for now.
