Rude Telemarketers
Everybody pretty much hates telemarketers. They interrupt during dinner. Try to sell you something you don’t want or care about, and they won’t accept no for an answer. That kind of thing. But that’s not the rude I’m talking about. What I’m talking about is when they get nasty when you ask do be put on their do not call list.
Whenever I get a telemarketer call, I will say ?Please put me on your do not call list?. I’m polite about it, I don’t have them waste time trying to sell me something. As soon as I know the company and their name, I’ll tell them to put me on the DNCL, and most acknowledge that there is no sale to be made here and that’s that.
However, today I received a call from some firefighter association saying they want money for Child Burn victims. This is a charity so legally they don’t have to maintain a DNCL, but I’ve started to ask even from charities. I’m not going to give money over the phone even if they send more information in the mail, and I think I’m saving them time and money.
But when I told this guy, he started getting abusive. ?So you don’t want to help child burn victims?. I of course kept repeating my request, he said a few more abusive things, and ended with ?Now we know what kind of person you are?
Nice, especially from someone who is supposedly requesting money for children. Trying to make me feel bad so that I donate money. Dude, wake up, you don’t make me feel bad, you make me annoyed at the charity that you are supposedly representing.
I feel that I did the right thing, but this guy was just being a jerk. It’s not the first rude call I received. A republican telemarketer called and when I wouldn’t donate said that by not donating I’m putting democrats in office.
These type of telemarketers really, really annoy me, and I would love to get into a shouting war with them. But I don’t because neither of us would feel any better. Maybe I should just record a message so once I have their basic information I can just play that without listening to them.
